Lesson Changes
To ensure your child’s learning consistency, you will receive a Lesson Substitute Pack if they miss a lesson. Our teachers schedules and studio times are booked in advance, so we are unable to offer make-up lessons or refunds. Instead, the Lesson Substitute Pack, which includes videos and/or written instructions, will help keep your child on track and provide new material to work on.
Lateness (from Compass Theatre): Lessons will run strictly on time, regardless of your arrival time. If you realise that you might be running late, it might be more convenient for you to return home and have a virtual session instead. Our teachers have been instructed to give you a few minute's grace, and if you do not turn up physically, they will convert to virtual lessons. All you have to do is log into the Parent Portal and click "Virtual Lesson" to join the session. However, they will still welcome you if you join them physically, and the lesson will end at your scheduled time.
Support Your Child’s learning
Yes. In order for the children to progress, they need to practice regularly at home.
Your child’s teacher will write down the books you need and where possible send links of where to order them from.
When it comes to practising, the most important thing is consistency. The length of practice will vary depending on how many tasks your child has been set and the level of difficulty. When practising, it is better to focus on a task rather than an amount of time. We encourage children to work toward a task, for example: play a certain passage 5x times correctly. On the first day of trying, it might take 15 goes before they can play it 5x times correctly but on day five, they might play it just 5x times, correctly each time, therefore the length of practice will vary.
As a general rule we recommend a minimum of 5 days a week, roughly 20-30 minutes each day for beginners. The length of practice time will increase as they progress.
Sit with your child and talk about their weekly timetable. Agree and write a schedule for which days they will do their practice. Set a time for each of the days and an alarm or reminder for these days and times. Allow your child to take ownership and responsibility of their practice/music sessions. Encourage by praising them when they keep to this agreement.
Yes. For the children taught at school, we will offer a parent’s meeting where you will be invited to meet with the teacher at a time agreed in advance and discuss your child’s progress or any other questions you might have.
All lesson notes are saved in your parents' portal. You have access at all times making tracking your child's progress easy.
Your teachers email will be provided, or simply reply to the lesson notes.

Music Theory
Music Theory involves many concepts and terms. Among the most fundamental are Rhythm, Melody and Harmony, all of which relate to how music is constructed. Chords give colour to melody and harmony. Melody and Harmony are written using notes on a scale. Most children can learn to play a simple tune or sing back a song. Some can even play by ear but Theory teaches children to READ. In theory they learn note names, values, performance instructions and italian terms. This is very important as it will help make your child a better musician. By allowing them to read, they will be able to learn new songs and pieces independently, without the help of a teacher. They will be able to write down a musical idea and develop it further.
Theory gives children the Knowledge, Freedom and Confidence to be better musicians.
Yes. Music Theory is incorporated as part of our lessons for the beginners. As the children progress and should they wish to take Graded exams, they will be encouraged to take the theory exams, too. Good news is, with every music grade exam they take, they are awarded UCAS points.
